The world’s most popular office suite, Microsoft Office, is moving to the Microsoft 365 platform this November, and it will no longer exist in the form it has known for several months.
Registered for more than 30 years
Microsoft Office was released in 1990. In 2011, seven major updates added the year of release to its name. So we have Microsoft Office 95, Microsoft Office 97, 2000, XP MS Office 2010, and the team that released it in 2011 created the name which is still Office Suite.
Develop and rebrand Office 365 – Microsoft 365
That same year, the web-based Office 365 suite hit the market, no longer available as a perpetual license but as a subscription. In 2020, this brand will be replaced by the Microsoft 365 platform, which will be the main and only portal for Microsoft Office tools.
The new Microsoft 365 platform replaces the desktop office suite, and mobile and web versions of Office.com. Therefore, the word Office will almost disappear from the nomenclature of Microsoft products, the word will remain only in the Office 2021 and Office LTSC packages, offered as a one-time purchase rather than a subscription for a time.
New product and logo design
With the rebranding, a new visual identity for the packaging. The current orange and red Office icons will be replaced by purple and blue hexagons. This notarized fix makes it easier to understand the changes and identify newer platforms.
Microsoft also announced some feature improvements to individual programs and new screens.
